You will encounter people who will try to make you less than you are, offer you less than you deserve and try to get you to settle for less than you want. Don’t be one of them.
You may already be in the rut of settling, tolerating and putting up with a job where they don’t appreciate you (even though they may say they do), you may be hanging out with friends who have lower aspirations than you do, or worse, they suck the life out of you with negativity and constant problems. You may have a partner who doesn’t value the relationship you’re in together. You may even have family members who take, take, take from you mentally, emotionally, spiritually and maybe even financially, but fall completely short on giving. You may have gotten into a rut of volunteering in ways that no longer fulfill you.
You may think where you are, accepting what you have and forfeiting something better, is what is meant to be, your lot in life. This is never true. If you do not feel joy daily, you are off track. Your life’s purpose is in one place and you are somewhere completely different. But if you sit still and listen, your soul will speak to you. It may take a few times of sitting still for you to hear it, but it will slowly begin to tell you the way. It needs to believe you will listen. It needs to believe you have opened the door, at least a crack. The flame of who you are meant to be and what you are meant to do only extinguishes at death. If you are still breathing, there is at least a flicker.
Don’t beat yourself up for where you are, lift yourself up so that you can reach for where you want to be. Where you are is only about today. It’s about you having the life experiences you’re meant to have so that you can become the person you’re meant to become, not so you stay stuck and wallow in all you haven’t accomplished. Look around you and let it tell you, not where you are, but where you aren’t. Look in the mirror and let it tell you, not who you are, but who you are not yet. But let those reflections not be suffocating limitations, mistakes and failures, but steps. You are lovely. Walk toward joy. Joy is your grand destination. Your childhood dreams, life experiences, and heart’s desires show you who you are going to be tomorrow.
You must believe you can get there. Even just a glimmer of hope will do. Suspend the buts, what-if’s and don’t know how’s. Just open the mental door and say “yes, please”. Think of a time in your life when you were really happy, stopping short of where it ends. Focus on the feeling of happiness in those moments. If you have a picture of that, get it out where you can see it. When you feel that sense of joy, say to yourself “more, please”. Doing this little exercise even twice a day for five minutes will begin to shift your life experiences.
You may see wanting more, seeking joy, thinking about what you really want as conveying a lack of gratitude for what you have, as being selfish, narcissistic, self-centered and egotistical. It is none of those things. The only thing settling, tolerating and staying stuck conveys is a lack of self-esteem. You can seek joy and want more and be humble. You can want more just because it makes life easier and makes it easier to help others. Each of us has come into this life with a purpose. You are meant to fulfill it and have the seeds of all you need already within you. When you say, “yes, please”, the way begins to reveal itself.
You will encounter people who will try to make you less than you are, offer you less than you deserve and try to get you to settle for less than you want. Do not be one of them. Walk forward. One small step at a time.
You are not alone. I am right here with you.
Hugs,
Lisa Z.
