The first day of October is here. We’re well into fall. We’re heading toward the end of another year. It’s always at this time that I begin to reflect of where I am, in terms of my goals. What have I accomplished this year and what do I want to accomplish before December 31st? At this point, there is still time to make many small steps and maybe a big leap before another year begins.
I will write a lot about setting achievable and measurable goals, making positive changes, and what it takes to get what you want throughout October and November. I realize I write about that throughout the year, but fall is a time for shift.
Today as October begins, I want to begin with a week of gratitude. Contemplating that for which you are grateful, is the single biggest contributor to enduring happiness. You don’t have to write it down. You don’t have to come up with a hundred items. You do not have to practice gratitude every single day in order for it to help you be happier. In fact, there is some research that says there might be some diminishing effect from expressing gratitude every single day. As a practice, do it however it works for you. However, for the next seven days, beginning today, let’s name five things each day, for which we are grateful. I will begin the conversation each day with my five things. I’m pretty certain we each have thirty-five things that we are thankful for in our lives, but it’s also ok to repeat. Simply, be consciously grateful.
